'Rhythm' - Documentation

To start with I tried to replicate completely the 3D sketch.
To do this I created a semicircle using arcs and had them at different heights like in the sketch.

I smoothed the crest of each bump and duplicated the component to create this complete circle.

Then I proceeded to add the pipes.

At this stage I made the centre pipe larger than the others to differentiate it.

I grouped all of these and, duplicated them, and flipped them vertically to complete the 3D-ness of the model.

I wasn't satisfied with how this was turning out so I started again and instead took inspiration from this model.

I created this shape from the cutaway shape of the circle from before.

I duplicated and rotated this shape around at 45 degrees to evoke a feeling of a circle but at the same time creating rhythm through the repetition of the diamonds. I also added the pipes back into this model.

I found this view interesting because from above it just looks like an average star shape, but that shadow tells all.

Just a comparison of the model before and after the change of ideas.

At this stage I gave each ring of pipes their own 'level' so that they get longer as you approach the centre of the model. I also painted it all with my texture.
I felt it needed variation in the painting so I gave each pipe a different shade of grey getting darker as you get closer to the centre.

So here I started looking for rendering places. This was one.

But I chose this place in the model. I also discovered the field of view tool which kept the camera in the same place and stretched out the model. I also set down a rectangle on the 'ground' level because the shadow was something I wanted to keep in the image.

At this stage I drew on some entourage instead of drawing some extra 3D earlier on. (I did this with all my models)
Here the entourage is added in photoshop.
