With the Datum 3D model I tried to stay true to my initial 3D sketch.
I first created a curved 3D line and turned that into a component.
Then I duplicated this a few times.
I experimented with the rotating of the components and this view struck me when I was moving around the model. It looks like a hand reaching out to you. If only it were in 3D IMAX.
So I made some more components and fiddle with their orientation and rotation too.
This is a view from the bottom, up of an arrangement during the process.
I removed some components, simplifying it down to this basic shape shape. You can still see the inspiration from the 3D sketch in it though too.
Then I painted it with my Datum texture. I quite like the shadows it casts here.
A close-up render for the final composition.
At this stage I drew on some entourage instead of drawing some extra 3D earlier on. (I did this with all my models)
And here is the final arrangement. I added the tomatoes so it looks like the 3D Datum model looks like it is some form of oddly shaped tongs.
