In this part of the 'Figure Ground' development I am trying to directly replicate the sketch with some height alterations.
I have made the model very tall but tried to make it not seem so from the top view.
Here I added in the triangle segment and played around with curving it into the model.
Like this (curving the triangle into it)
I then stopped trying to join the other triangle to the tall one and started to try to make the circle's long part 3d and rounded.
This was one of the results which looks pretty wacky/cool.
I gave up on attempting to go down this road and started over.
I began with a circle, which I divided up into a grid.
I the pulled all of the grid up at different levels.
All pulled up with shadows turned on.
Another view.
I turned this into a component, duplicated it, flipped it vertically, then rotated it again to match the sides up. This was the result.
The 'square' sphere with other shape experiments behind.
I next played around with a triangle shape which was to be another component in the model. I cut this one up quite thoroughly with the line tool creating various shapes. I then pushed and pulled those shapes to create the centre. Based on the outline thicknesses in my original sketch varied, I made the outside of the shape vary in thickness also.
So here is another view of it later on with some more alterations (changed the border closest to the camera, pushed and pulled the centre more). I also have it set to a different viewing mode.
Here work is starting on the third component of the model. The top triangle.
Here you can see part of it in place. I tried to make it 'more' 3D.
A Detail shot of my 'more' 3D attempt.
A Top view which nearly matches my original texture.
I played around a bit, making them all into a component and rotating it x4. This resulted and looks pretty cool.
Another view.
I decided not to go this route though, and continued on to paint them with the two versions of my repeated textures. The mostly black texture on the circle and the inverted on the outer triangles.
Here is a rendered detail shot and one that I used for the entourage-ing. It is low down on the bottom triangle (with lots of cuttings)
At this stage I drew on some entourage instead of drawing some extra 3D earlier on. (I did this with all my models)
And here is the final product.
